What Should Be Included in a Construction Document Set?
A construction document set should communicate the design clearly enough for the project team to understand scope, dimensions, materials, and construction intent.
Common components
- Cover or general information sheets
- Floor plans with dimensions and key notes
- Exterior elevations
- Building and wall sections where required
- Details for important assemblies and conditions
- Door, window, finish, or equipment schedules when applicable
- Reflected ceiling or interior documentation when applicable
- Material and construction notes coordinated with the drawings
The set should match the project
Not every project requires the same drawings. A small renovation, a major addition, and a new commercial building can have very different documentation needs. The appropriate set depends on scope, complexity, permitting requirements, construction method, and the information needed by the project team.
