Architectural Drawings vs. Construction Drawings
The terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but project teams should understand what information the drawings are intended to communicate.
Architectural drawings
Architectural drawings communicate the design: how spaces are arranged, how the building is experienced, and how major elements relate to one another. Depending on the project stage, they may be conceptual, schematic, developed, or prepared for construction.
Construction drawings
Construction drawings communicate the information needed to turn the design into a buildable project. They can include plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, notes, dimensions, and other coordinated information required for the project's scope.
Why coordination matters
A drawing set is most useful when its information works together. Dimensions, details, materials, openings, reflected ceiling information, and other documentation should be developed with the overall design and construction requirements in mind.
